Abstract

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an important element in the management of an organization to ensure it remains excellent and relevant in the present, including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The use of ICT can help SMEs enhance their business operational efficiency, innovate, expand access to markets and customers, and compete with larger firms. The increase in ICT usage in SMEs each year shows a positive development and should be consistently maintained and continuously improved in line with the increasingly digital environment now. However, the high dependence on ICT in the employment sector can contribute to symptoms of technostress such as depression, fatigue, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and muscle tension among workers. Therefore, this survey study was conducted to examine the level of technostress among SME workers. The study population consists of Muslim SME workers in Negeri Sembilan, and a total of 25 respondents participated in this study. This study uses a questionnaire as the primary measurement tool, and the data is analysed descriptively using IBM SPSS Statistics version 23 software to obtain frequency scores, percentages, means, standard deviations, and mean interpretations. The study results show that overall, the level of technostress among respondents based on the five dimensions of technostress is at a moderate level (mean value = 2.89). The dimension of techno-overload recorded the highest moderate level (mean value = 3.29) compared to other dimensions of technostress and became the main factor driving technostress among Muslim SME workers. The impact of these findings can help SMEs improve the management of ICT task loads and work schedules, as well as provide support such as offering ICT courses and training to address technology complexity issues and providing infrastructure that is compatible with current technology. Several suggestions have also been put forward to other researchers in the future to improve studies in the field of technostress and SMEs in Malaysia.
