Abstract

Social enterprises aim for long-term sustainability to balance their dual social and economic missions, though they risk prioritising economic goals over societal benefits due to resource constraints In Malaysia, insecure foundations of finance have severely undermined the sustainability of social enterprise. While studies have brought financial dimensions into the limelight, this study identifies three equally critical non-financial sustainability aspects, which are continuous improvement, structured operations, and leveraging mutual strengths. These insights stimulate the enrichment of existing literature by introducing a critical non-financial dimension, demonstrating that non-economic factors are equally vital to long-term organizational viability. It also offered practical guidance to stakeholders to help social enterprises navigate the intricate issues encountered.
