CONCEPTUALIZING HAPPINESS: HAMKA’S PERSPECTIVE

Happiness remains a subject of significant scholarly interest, with varying definitions across different societies. This article seeks to clarify Hamka’s conceptualization of happiness and outlines his perspective on the means of achieving it. Research methodology employs two primary approaches. The first examines Hamka’s central message concerning happiness, while the second investigates the phenomenological concept, specifically how phenomenological encounter can lead to religious experience and thereby contribute to happiness. Additionally, the article explores the relevance of Hamka’s work within the multidisciplinary field of happiness studies. The analysis revealed that Hamka’s concept of happiness is distinct from many prevailing ideas, as he incorporated the notion of a happy afterlife.
