Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between the Arabic language and Islamic sciences. The paper aims at identifying the impact of learning Arabic on the understanding of Quran Interpretation, Islamic Law (Hadith), and Islamic Jurisprudence. The researcher uses the analytic descriptive approach and used the questionnaire as a data collection method. The population of the study was the students of Arabic language and Islamic Sciences at Malaya University, the sample was 55 students from this department. The main results of the paper were that non-Arab learners of Arabic find it very helpful in understanding the Quran and Islamic sciences. In addition, learners did not think that the Arabic language enables them to comprehend the Islamic sciences completely. Based on these results, the researcher suggested a few recommendations. The main ones are to improve the level of teaching the Arabic language in the university, reinforce the linkage between the Arabic language and the Islamic sciences, encourage using the Arabic language to teach Islamic sciences, and approve the Arabic language for writing the researches related to the Arabic language or Islamic sciences.
