Abstract

The integration of digital technologies in mathematics education has created opportunities to enhance students’ engagement and conceptual understanding through interactive learning environments. Nevertheless, many primary school students continue to experience difficulties in learning geometry, particularly in visualising geometric shapes and understanding perimeter, area, and volume. Although Minecraft Education and digital storytelling have been used independently in educational settings, limited research has focused on developing a structured instructional module that systematically integrates both approaches for primary geometry learning. Therefore, this study aimed to develop the Minecraft Education Digital Storytelling (MEDS) Module for primary geometry learning using the ADDIE instructional design model involving five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The needs analysis involved 10 primary school mathematics teachers and 100 Year 4 students, while five experts participated in the content validation process and 20 Year 5 students participated in the pilot implementation. The MEDS Module was developed as an eight-week instructional programme that integrates Minecraft Education, Digital Storytelling and Gamified Project-Based Learning to support geometry learning through collaborative construction, mathematical explanation, storytelling, and machinima production activities. The evaluation findings showed that the MEDS Module achieved high content validity (CVI = 0.89) and high reliability (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.87), indicating satisfactory content validity and internal consistency. The module is valid, reliable, and suitable for implementation in primary mathematics classrooms. Overall, the MEDS Module provides teachers with a structured instructional resource for teaching perimeter, area, volume, and geometry problem-solving while supporting students’ spatial visualisation, creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.
