This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the DATIS Module, based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), in reducing stress among secondary school adolescents. A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test design involving treatment and control groups was employed. A total of 70 Form Four students from two secondary schools in Perak were selected using purposive sampling and allocated to a treatment group (n = 35) and a control group (n = 35). The treatment group participated in the DATIS Module Large Group Counselling intervention for six weeks, whereas the control group received no intervention. Stress was measured using the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10), and the data were analysed using descriptive statistics, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA). The mean stress score in the treatment group decreased from 2.7587 at pre-test to 2.4784 at post-test, compared with a smaller reduction in the control group from 2.6369 to 2.5521. ANOVA indicated a significant interaction effect between group and measurement occasion on stress, F(1, 135) = 15.321, p < .001. MANCOVA showed that the main effect of family income level on stress was not significant, F(3, 139) = 0.610, p = .610, and the interaction between treatment and family income level was also not significant, F(3, 139) = 1.901, p = .133. Ethnicity showed a significant main effect on stress, F(2, 139) = 6.383, p = .002; however, the interaction between treatment and ethnicity was not significant, F(2, 139) = 1.576, p = .221. Overall, the findings provide empirical support for the potential of the CBT-based DATIS Module as a psychoeducational intervention for reducing stress among secondary school adolescents.
