Abstract

The adoption of blockchain technology in halal food supply chains facilitates not only compliance with halal standards and improved operational efficiency, but also increased transparency, traceability, and heightened trust among supply chain stakeholders. However, the adoption of blockchain technology in halal food supply chains is still in its infancy. This paper aims to develop the theoretical framework for examining blockchain adoption factors, framed within the Technology-Organization-Environment framework and the Resource-based View theory, focusing on two primary constructs: technological characteristics and integration factors. This paper performs an extensive review and synthesis of prior literature on blockchain adoption, halal supply chains, and technology adoption theories. The proposed framework is expected to contribute to the advancement of research in halal logistics and the implementation strategies of blockchain. Future research is recommended to empirically test the proposed framework using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method approaches across different halal supply chain sectors and geographical contexts.
