Job stress is a serious problem in the food service industry. In particular, coffee shop employees are required to work under time pressure. Employees in coffee shops are exposed to high levels of pressure from heavy workloads, emotional demands and low autonomy in the workplace, which may be related to their performance. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between occupational stress and employee performance of coffee shop workers in Sura, Dungun, Terengganu. This study investigated three dimensions of occupational stress: task overload, emotional demands, and lack of job control. The research design was a quantitative strategy with a correlational design. The staff of coffee shops in the selected area were given questionnaires to collect data. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyse the data obtained. The results showed a significant relationship between the dimensions of job stress and employees’ performance. The study showed that the most obvious correlation of the three evaluated categories was between employee performance and emotional demands. Next is workload. Workload has a significant but weak relationship with employee performance. However, job control was not strongly related to employee performance. In the coffee industry, managing job stress dynamics is crucial since optimal employee performance is associated with the proper management of the stressors.
