Abstract

Minat, sikap dan motivasi merupakan elemen penting dalam meningkatkan pencapaian pelajar dalam bidang yang diceburi. Tiga elemen ini sering berkait antara satu sama lain dan menjadi kunci kejayaan kepada pelajar untuk berusaha sepenuhnya demi mencapai matlamat mereka. Bidang pendidikan dan latihan teknikal dan vokasional (TVET) tidak asing lagi dalam pembangunan Malaysia. Banyak usaha kerajaan untuk meningkatkan enrolmen pelajar TVET terutamanya pada peringkat sekolah, kolej vokasional, kolej komuniti, politeknik dan peringkat universiti. Namun jumlah pelajar yang mendaftar dalam bidang di Malaysia ini masih rendah berbanding negara maju yang lain. Kolej vokasional (KV) merupakan institusi pendidikan yang menawarkan pendidikan Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) bagi pelajar lepasan tingkatan tiga dan seterusnya menawarkan Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) kepada lepasan SVM yang layak. Namun, kadar kemasukan pelajar ke peringkat DVM semakin berkurangan pada setiap tahun bermula tahun 2018 sehingga 2023 walaupun ramai pelajar yang layak untuk meneruskan pengajian ke peringkat DVM. Justeru itu, kajian ini dijalankan untuk melihat tahap pengaruh minat dan sikap terhadap motivasi pelajar dalam bidang yang mereka ceburi di KV Zon Selatan. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif yang melibatkan 374 orang pelajar tahun akhir SVM dari program teknologi elektronik. Hasil kajian menunjukkan tahap minat, sikap dan motivasi pelajar adalah tinggi (M=4.28, SP=0.29) dan dua sub elemen dari minat dan sikap mempengaruhi motivasi pelajar terhadap bidang yang diceburi. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara minat dan sikap dengan motivasi pelajar. Selain itu juga, dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa motivasi yang dominan dalam kalangan pelajar adalah motivasi intrinsik berbanding motivasi ekstrinsik. Justeru itu, guru-guru di kolej vokasional boleh menentukan kaedah yang bersesuaian dalam sesi pengajaran dan pembelajaran dalam membantu pelajar-pelajar meningkatkan minat, sikap dan motivasi mereka dalam bidang yang diceburi.

Interest, attitude, and motivation are crucial elements in enhancing students' achievements in their chosen fields. These three elements are often interrelated and serve as the key to success for students as they strive to achieve their goals. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays a significant role in Malaysia's development. The government has made substantial efforts to increase student enrolment in TVET, particularly at the school, vocational college, community college, polytechnic, and university levels. However, the number of students enrolling in this field in Malaysia remains low compared to other developed countries. Vocational colleges (KV) are educational institutions offering the Malaysian Vocational Certificate (SVM) for students who have completed their lower secondary education (Form 3) and subsequently offer the Malaysian Vocational Diploma (DVM) to eligible SVM graduates. Despite a significant number of students qualifying to continue their studies at the DVM level, the enrolment rate in DVM programs has been declining each year from 2018 to 2023.This study was conducted to assess the influence of interest and attitude on student motivation in the fields they pursue at KV in the Southern Zone. The study employed a quantitative approach involving 374 final-year SVM students from the electronic technology program. The results indicated that the levels of interest, attitude, and motivation among students were high (M=4.28, SP=0.29), with two sub-elements of interest and attitude influencing students' motivation in their chosen fields. The findings also revealed a significant relationship between interest and attitude with student motivation. Additionally, the study showed that intrinsic motivation was more dominant among students compared to extrinsic motivation. Therefore, vocational college teachers can identify appropriate methods during teaching and learning sessions to help students enhance their interest, attitude, and motivation in their chosen fields.
